CARS

Recently, I am pretty curious about the cars and it is not just about driving a car, it is more like about the technological stuff, engines, security improvements and design as well. I discovered a lovely a website about the evolution of Seat Ibiza model and want to share with you.

They start with the first Ibıza model in 1984 and give some information about the engine but I do not want to talk about the numbers. The special thing is they link the Ibiza models with popular music, movie and technological stuff in that time.

I want to you with my selections of that list and show the evolution of Ibiza.

1st Generation Ibiza – 1984/1992

”Thriller”, Michael Jackson (1984) — Back to the Future (1985) — Apple the first computer

2nd Generation Ibiza – 1993/2001

”Don’t look at back in anger”, Oasis (1996) — Pulp Fiction (1994) — Doly the first cloned sheep

3rd Generation Ibiza – 2002/2007

”Harder to Breathe”, Maroon 5 (2003) — The Pirates of Caribbean (2003) — Apple the first İphone

My personal favourite is 3rd generation Ibiza because it is the car for using inner-city and also the design  is especially the interior design is the beginning of the present day design. (I hope get one 3rd generation Ibiza in my education life- Daddy please hear me!!!)

4th Generation Ibiza – 2008-2012

”Sex on Fire”, Kings of Leon (2008) — The Dark Knight (2008) — NASA’s Lcross mission found water on Moon

Ender’s Game

I am very much enjoying reading and watching science fiction. Actually, I am kind of cinema boy that’s why I watched Ender’s Game in the cinema in 2013. Orson Scott Card is the creator of Ender’s Game series. He is an American novelist, critic, public speaker and columnist. He won the Hugo and Nebula Awards with Ender’s Game. Series contains six books with starting with Ender’s Game. The fiction is about survival wars between humans and insects. Ender Andrew is a boy only 11 years old and he is at academy of military. First War between humans and insects, was very devastating so human kind wanted to prepare next wave. They develop a new program about to raise a leader against alien insects. Andrew Ender is the one who will save the world. I am starting to read first book of the series. Additionally, the movie reached 6,7 over 10 in International Movie Database, some critic users did not like it but in my opinion it is not about the scenario.

‘What if’

After a necessary vacation, we are starting to little sketch problems such as this one. My question was ‘what if The Red House by William Morris was designed by SANAA. Firstly, I have done some research for the background because such a question requires an information about characteristic features about The Red House and SANAA architecture firm. So, The Red House was designed as a family home in first place but now it is using as Arts and Crafts Museum in Southeast England. The significant of this building is about the L-shaped plan and also the house reflects William Morris ideas about the community at that time. The Red House is the example of Tudor Gothic Style which identifies itself with historicizing elements so clearly there are some certain qualities about the building but of course with limited time I could not create a certain plan about it but I have some ideas.

william-morris
William Morris (24 Mach 1834 – 3 October 1896) was an Eglish textile designer, poet, novelist and social activist.
ruskin
John Ruskin ( 8 February 1819 – 20 January 1900) was the leading English art critic of the Victorian era and Morris influenced his writings.

About SANAA, I had a lot of research and I said that I wish to meet them last term because they have amazing works and styles. SANAA is a multiple award-winning architecture firm which created by Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishiwaza. They have a lot of amazing works but I just looked some their well-knowns works and tried to understand their style. And Grace Farms and Serpentine Pavilion are quite interesting and I tried to read the author’s ideas about the projects and clearly they are very much interest in extensive use of glass which is quite different than others such as they want to create reflections which creates a different experience. Also, as I read in the magazines, they concern with aesthetics. Additionally SANAA is synonymous with contemporary Japanese architecture and their purpose not just looking good structure, they are also concerning about shaping and changing our daily life. Also, they do not want to create strict boundaries between spaces and they prefer layered spaces with no clear boundaries.
